SECU Family House

 The SECU Family House on the Richard J. Reynolds, III & Marie M. Reynolds Campus provides affordable lodging and support services in a caring environment for referred adult patients and/or their caregivers who travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., for medical treatment.

Hourly Volunteer Opportunities require a volunteer profile and registration online, but these do NOT require an additional application.


  • PROVIDE A MEAL

    Provide a meal for 35 people. The registration page will have all important details.

    Registration is required.

    Hour value is on an honor system.

  • PREPARE GRAB-AND-GO SNACK BAGS

    Prepare 10 or more snack bags that guests can take with them to the hospitals. These should be put in paper lunch bags (which can be decorated!) and may include a bottle of water and individually wrapped store-bought snacks, such as a healthy granola bar, dried fruit, crackers, breakfast bar.

    Registration is required.

    10 bags = 1 hour of service

  • PROVIDE BREAKFAST BAGS

    Prepare 10 or more breakfast bags for guests to enjoy. These should be put in paper lunch bags (which can be decorated!) and may include a small juice, fruit cup, individually wrapped store-bought muffin or danish, and protein bar. Please label as breakfast bags.

    Registration is required.

    10 bags = 1 hour of service

  • ASSEMBLE WELCOME BAGS

    Prepare 10 or more Welcome Bags that are put on guests’ beds when they arrive. These should be put in 8×10 gift bags (which can be decorated!) and may include a puzzle book, deck of cards, pen and notepad, tissue pack, hand sanitizer, note card, travel sewing kit.

    Registration is required.

    10 bags = 1 hour of service

  • PROVIDE REUSABLE CLOTH MASKS

    Make masks that guests can take home with them. Adult sizes only. No particular pattern is necessary.

    Registration is required.

    Hour value is on an honor system, based on the number of masks prepared.

  • MAKE HOMEMADE DESSERTS AND GOODIES

    Prepare homemade brownies, cookies, trail mix, or muffins. These should be packaged in individual portions (e.g. one brownie or 2-4 cookies per bag) and include a date and a list of ingredients. These may not be store bought in order to receive volunteer service credit.

    12 goodies = 1 hour of service

  • DINNER HOSTS IN THE KITCHEN

    Prepare the kitchen for dinners

    Help to put meals in individual containers for guests

    Put away leftovers

    When groups return to prepare meals, Dinner Hosts will help to orient them, answer questions, and provide support.

    Registration is required.
